Barney Was Hungry

Barney the Possum showed up for a snack. Turns out he likes bird seed too. He was cleaning up the spilled seed on the porch. He was moving very slow, very timid, although when I opened the door it didn't seem to bother him for me to take his picture. Sorry the pics are a little fuzzy, I was shaking. I think I was more afraid of him then he was of me.

Nan Nook of the North Reporting Again

I know, I know everyone is sick of reading about the snow, the squirels, the ducks, etc, etc. But this is my life right now, so don't read it if it's boring.

These pics are of Tommy Two Teeth. I could always tell Tommy Two Teeth from Sherlock because first of all he was skinner and he has this piece of hair on his back near his head that sticks up. Yes, thats how close and personal I'm getting with the varmits. I can now raise the window and talk to them and they don't run off. I put a bag of bird feed in the chair and Tommy was helping himself to it and the corn cobb.

Tommy used to be skinner than Sherlock and he still is but lately he has begun to pooch around the belly. The other day I was trying to work on some expense reports for dad and the dogs began to bark and run around and scratch at the window. Once I got through with the paper work, I looked out and the 100 pounds of bird food I had bought on Sunday was being torn into by Sherlock and Tommy Two Teeth. They had torn into one of the bags and were laying and rolling in it, stuffing their cheeks. Now Tommy has become a regular visitor. Of course, Sherlock came back. We had a day without heavy snow so he showed back up to help himself to the 100 pounds of seed.

It is snowing so hard today for a little while this morning I couldn't even see the home next to us. We had a white out. They are saying six or more wet and heavy snow this time. The last big snow was like washing powder, light and dry. This one is going to be different though because it is not considered lake effect but from Canada with moisture from the southwest. Yeah!! How I hate snow let me count the ways.

I woke up Sunday morning and looked out and discovered we have a crippled duck. It's a female. She hopped up on the deck railing yesterday trying to get to the corn cobb. It was hard to watch her trying to balance on the rail and peck at the corn. When I see something like that I am reminded things aren't so bad. So we have a bunch of snow, it will leave eventually. So I'm stuck here with no job or direction, I will change that when I decide I've had enough. So I feel like my daughter hates me and treats me like I am the enemy, hopefully one day I will understand why. Just know I love you all, equally. I will always love ya'll no matter what, forever and forever. My intentions are good but not always right. I try. I want nothing but good things and happiness for everyone. If you ever need help, know that I will be there.

Happy Holidays to everyone.

Boo Boo

Many years ago there was a little boy, Jason and a little girl, Jessica who thought their doggie Molly was lonely and needed a friend to play with. Their mom saw an add in the paper for free puppies, so they started off to find the place. They finally found the street which eventually turned into a rock road. At the very end of the road was an old run down trailer with a dog house sitting out front with little fuzzy cute puppies running around outside. The mom told the kids to wait in the car. She approached the trailer's front door, and before she could knock a grisled man with a cigarrete hanging out of his mouth growled "what do you want?". We came about the puppies in the ad, she said. He said well there they are take your choice. She told the kids to get out and see which puppy they wanted. As they were walking toward the pups a yellow lab female with the greenest, meanest eyes came stalking up behind them. The old man yelled for the dog to leave them alone just in time. The lab was the momma of the pups and she was trying to protect them.

All the puppies were white and black and fuzzy. Twelve of them. Jason and Jessica began to argue over which one to take home. While they were fighting over which one they wanted, their mother looked under the dog house because there was this little piece of black fur sticking out from under it. She bent over grabbed a hold of the fur and pulled out an all black, beady eyed, skinny, matted, nasty smelling tiny pup. She asked the man what was wrong with the pup and he replied oh that's the runt. For those that don't know what a runt is, it is the smallest one in the litter. The mother dog will sometimes reject the pup and not feed it.

Jason and Jessica had stopped fighting and had turned their attention to what their mother was holding. The man then said here let me have that thing I should have knocked it in the head along time ago. Jason was aghast and yelled no we'll take that pup. The mother said guys this puppie is very sick and I don't think it will live, but they insisted that was the one they wanted to take home. He gave them a rag to wrap the pup in to take her home. The mother suspected this would just be a vet bill and a tragic lesson for her kids. The little puppy with the tiny beady eyes stunk so bad they had to keep the windows rolled down on the trip home.

After they arrived home they bathed and clipped the matts from her hair and realized she was nothing but bones. Jason, Jessica and their mom took the puppy to the vet. The vet said it would be best to put the puppy away, because if she did live she would take a great deal of effort on their part and then she still might not make it or live long if she did. They decided to give her a chance at life, so the vet said she would have to eat every two hours by a bottle until she was strong enough to eat food. That included feeding her through the night. Both Jason and Jessica swore they could take care of her and they did. They fed her and took care of her and loved her and they finally named her Boo Boo.

Where did she get a name like Boo Boo? After she began to gain weight she looked like a small black bear so they named her after Yogi Bear's sidekick. Her favorite place to sleep was Jason's arms. The mother began to notice when she made up Jason's bed the new bed spread had a hole in it. Each day the hole kept getting larger and larger and it was wet also. One night the mother walked in and found Boo Boo being bear hugged by an asleep Jason. She was sucking on the bed spread. Because she was not allowed to suckle on her mother she was using the bed spread as a sort of pacifier. This bed spread became Boo Boo's carry along quilt where ever we took her to keep her from destroying anymore bed spreads.

Jason's and Jessica's favorite game to play with her was chase. They would have her chase them around the house and then they would jump up on the couch or chair. She would be in such a hurry after them that everytime she ran head first into the furniture. Because of her short legs she could never jump on the couch to get them and they thought it was great fun to listen to her bark and bark.

After fourteen years of listening to her bark and bark when she is unhappy about something, it has become nerve racking for the mother. You see when kids grow up they leave and they leave their pets behind. So now it's just Boo Boo and the mother. Jason is married and has his own dogs now. Jessica is in college and doesn't have the time or space for a dog. Boo Boo has lost most of her sight. She has to be talked to in a very loud voice, because her hearing is just about gone too. If she is offered people food, the mother has to put it up to her lips for her to taste before she will take it, since her sense of smell seems to have left her too. She is no longer a puppy, but every now and then she likes to pretend she is. She'll pull at moms sock or jump up in her lap wanting to be cuddled the way Jason used to when she slept with him.

Andrea's Pictures of Snow

Clyde and Cuddles think they got snow?!? Look at Freckles, BooBoo and Poochie below. Where's Bonnie the chicken dog? What's that hanging out of Clyde's mouth? A poor little mouse?

Where Are We Suppose To Pee Now?

The dogs went outside to their little piece of ground and couldn't find it! Boo Boo was having trouble walking through it. Pooch didn't even want to play in it.

Bye Bye Pleeeease

Gary teased the dogs by asking them if they wanted to go bye-bye. They got all excited and jumped up in his lap. I think they are getting sick of the snow like I am. At this very moment we are having lake effect snows. Huge white fluffy snow flakes. The snow is getting deeper and deeper. I am ready to live somewhere else. We have 5 and a half more months of this. I can't take it! It has snowed every day but one since we got back from Atlanta.

Fat Sherlock's Addiction

Love my camera in case you missed it.

Rocky Says Snow Is For the Birds

Our one inch of predicted snow turned into about 6 inches. Lake Effect Snow. By the way I finally found out what that means. The water is warmer than the wind blowing above it producing moisture/snow. Rocky ran out but high tailed it back in after he experienced the joy of frozen feet. And yes it is still snowing. Our forecast is for the next seven days to be nothing but snow. I haven't been out of this trailer since we got back except this morning when I went out and shoveled a ton of snow off the SUV so dad could get to work. I didn't want him outside with his head cold doing that.
Well we have a new animal to add to our vistors. I opened up the door last night to take the trash out and guess what was standing by the door looking up at me. A cute little possumm. He just looked at me, turned around and waddled off. He wasn't very big and he had a pretty white coat with beady little eyes looking out at me. I think I'll call him Barney. Barney the possumm. I had thought it was maybe a raccoon that had been my nightly visitor. There had been small prints in the snow before and the dogs go crazy every morning sniffing the porch. What do possumms eat--except trash? I hate to think of any creature out there in this cold and snow hungry. Who knows maybe in my next life I'll be one of those creatures needing a free hand out.

Ducks Gotta Have Corn Too

Gertrude was so hungry she didn't mind me on the porch taking her picture.
